The Kanji SITE Creaks Back Into Life

Posted in general at 12:49 pm by Chris

Hello and welcome to the all-new Kanji SITE blog, which will keep you up to date on all Kanji SITE news and updates. This blog replaces the previous Status page, which will be taken outside and shot any day now.

The more astute among you will have noticed that the site hasn’t been updated in a while. Yes, well, it’s certainly been some time and I apologise for that. I’ve been, er, otherwise engaged - and no, that isn’t a euphemism for “in jail” or anything like that. Just busy with other stuff.

The good news, though, is that I recently managed to scrape a pass in the JLPT Level 2, on only my second attempt. I won’t say it was “mission accomplished” or anything like that - I still have a way to go until my Japanese is at the level I would like it to be - but it was nice to get it. In other news, I finally left Japan earlier this year. Yes, after eight years of miso soup and canned coffee, I’ve moved back to the UK. I’m enjoying being back, but good grief I could kill for some decent sushi.

Anyway, I’m going to be updating the site a lot more over the next year or so. I have grand plans, but the first step is to get the Level 2 kanji detail pages finished. Then I want to completely overhaul the site, replacing its quaint static HTML with something a bit more handy, and bringing in some new features. More on that later.

To stay up to date with developments here, you can subscribe to the blog’s RSS feed or the existing e-mail list, both of which I’ll use to announce all news and updates as they happen.

So, welcome back and please stay tuned for more updates. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in, and hope that the site continues to prove useful to at least some of you out there. Please continue to send me your feedback, or you can say hi via the blog comments.

It’s good to be back.

Hey, welcome back! I enjoy the site and figured you got busy, as everyone does, but I’m glad you’re going to update. I use the site to make sure the kanji patterns I cross-stitch really mean what I think they mean, and for new ideas for patterns. Thanks for the good work, ja ne! ~RT

Surely sushi’s not worth killing for? If it is, then you really will end up “other wise engaged”.

Welcome back to the UK, looking forward to new stuff on the site.

Thank you so much for coming back. I have used your website to suplement other Japanease learning programs for a year now. Your site has been my corner stone and answer to many of my questions. I have to admit I have been lazy the past two months and fell behind on studying, but now that your site is going to be updated, I’ll be back in action.

Chris, Welcome back and Congratulations on the JLPT2–I had used the site occasionally maybe 18 months ago but then found that it was a bit advanced for me and I started looking elsewhere….Got your E-mail yesterday and checked out the site & read the blog. I tried to log in but it keeps telling me that the user name is wrong. I cannot find the notes that I kept in the past and the only user names that I have used are not working. . My password should be OK. Can you help me with the user name?

    Thank you, Floyd Goddard

    Hei Dude!

really great site, I also used to study with it a bit. This year I took lvl 2 but im not sure wether I passed or not. The third part was so hard. A text about the REM Phase while you dream. Beside all the Kanji you certainly cant prepare for that.

Anyway, keep up the good work. :D

Thanks everyone - great to hear from you all. I’ll try to make sure that the updates are more frequent this time around. I also have various ideas about building more of a community of users this time around, so stay tuned for developments there.

[Floyd, I’m not sure what login you’re referring to… I’ll mail you separately.]

I’d like to join in congratulating you for your site. What can I say? A friend recommended it to me when I was leaving for a year in Hiroshima. And, what can I say? It helped me to pass last year JLPT 3, after only a year and something of not so intense study.
Now I’m back I intend to continue studying as I don’t want to forget the Japanese so hard to learn ;-) so thank you very much for updating!

Good that you are back just in time. I have just finished 10 baches of level 2 Kanjis and was worried abt how to proceed further. I just had a glance with 2/3 other sites but found your site to be the best among all. Very clear, well organised, easy to study…….We are really glad to have u back!!!!!

OMG! I’m so glad that your updating this site again. Last year I was looking for a good kanji resource to help me learn japanese then I found this one. After using it for a few months I realized that this site wasn’t being updated. Now that your updating again I’m basically jumping for joy! :D So glad your back!!

Dear Chris, I Just couldnt believe My score of 88% in 2005 jlpt lvl2 kanji section (dont feel jealous!). All credit goes to your kanji site only. I was frantic for this year’s lvl 1 updates, but couldnt find any and finally abandoned the search and went back to conventional books. Thanks for coming back. i shall recommend to all my friends. Best of luck for your level 1 too!
